What is Intern South Bay?

Intern South Bay is an 8-week summer internship program designed to provide college students with hands-on experience in their chosen career fields. In partnership with the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB), the program connects students with local employers, offering valuable professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

The mission of the Intern South Bay Program is to empower students by providing meaningful internship experiences that enhance their career readiness and professional skills. The program aims to:

  • Bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace experience.
  • Provide students with exposure to real-world industry practices.
  • Foster professional growth through mentorship, networking, and skill development.
  • Promote workplace equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Support employers in developing a skilled and diverse workforce.

Students who participate in Intern South Bay can expect:
✅ Paid internship opportunities (up to 20 hours per week).
✅ Professional development workshops covering resume building, interview techniques, workplace ethics, communication skills, and networking.
✅ Hands-on industry experience aligned with their career interests.
✅ Access to mentorship from professionals in their field.
✅ An opportunity to build a professional network and gain career insights.
✅ A closing recognition event with corporate partners and fellow interns.

📅 Duration: June 23 – August 18 (8 weeks)
⏳ Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week (based on employer needs)
💰 Paid Internship: Fully funded by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB)
🏢 Placement: Students 

Professional Development Workshops

In addition to on-the-job experience, students will participate in bi-weekly workshops designed to enhance workplace readiness.

🗣 Workplace Communication Skills – Learn how to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
🤝 The Importance of Networking – Build relationships and develop connections for future career opportunities.
✅ Workplace Ethics & Professionalism – Understand workplace expectations, ethical decision-making, and professional behavior.
🌍 Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity – Develop an equity lens and learn how to foster inclusive work environments.

These workshops will provide valuable insights to help students grow professionally while making the most of their internship experience.
