Warrior Smart Start

Warrior Smart Start is an opportunity for new students starting in summer or fall and their families to connect to campus resources and student support programs offered by El Camino College. Students can attend sessions to prepare them for their first semester, join a support program, learn transfer strategies, and more!

Be prepared for your first semester at El Camino by attending Warrior Smart Start. Students and their families are invited to learn all about what El Camino has to offer. This event is free, so be sure to sign up when registration opens!

Advance registration will be available online; however, on-site registration will be available during our event.

Event Entry Process

Free parking in Lot H (floors 2-4) and Lot L which are both located on Redondo Beach blvd.
The event will take place in the Schauerman Library located in the center of the campus.
Please have your registration ticket QR code ready for a smooth check-in process.

8:00 - 9:00 AM	COVID Screening and Check-In Location: Marsee Auditorium Please be aware that guests will be asked to wear masks and complete a COVID screening conducted by World Back to Work (WBTW) in order to participate. Guests will need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative CLIA certified COVID test completed within the last 72 hours. Those who are unable to provide proof will need to take part in on-site testing located at Marsee Auditorium. Guests who may need to test are strongly encouraged to arrive early to allow sufficient time for testing (which may take 20 minutes or more). Guests ages 5 - 17 will need their parent or guardian to sign a waiver to consent to testing. This will be provided on-site by our WBTW Team. Once guests have been cleared by WBTW, they will be able to enter campus and complete the check-in process with our Warrior Smart Start Team.
9:00 - 10:00 AM	Welcome and Student Panel Location: Marsee Auditorium We will kick off our day together with our ECC President, Dr. Thames. This will be followed with a video, panel discussion, and an overview of our activities and services for you to take advantage of.
10:15 - 11:15 AM	Meta Major Workshops Location: Various (Follow your assigned ambassador) You will have the opportunity to meet fellow students within your meta-major and learn more about how your specific meta-major success team can support your goals, as well as requirements for your major. Meta-majors are groups of related majors with similar requirements, outcomes, or methodologies. Our full list of meta-majors include: Behavioral & Social Sciences, Business, Creative Arts, Health & Community Wellness, Industry & Technology, Languages, Composition, & Journalism Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM).
11:00 - 12:30 PM (Ongoing)	Campus Tour Location: Library Lawn Come take a guided tour with one of our ambassadors!
11:00 - 1:00 PM (Ongoing)	Chat with a Counselor Location: Library Lawn Sometimes you just have a quick question for a counselor about a class you're interested in or maybe you need guidance with prerequisite clearance. Our counselors are available to help with some of your questions that you would not normally need an appointment for.

Attending this session will grant you credit towards the Path to Enrollment.

9:00 - 10:00 AM	Welcome Session & Student Panel - This session will provide an overview of the day. In addition, we will be hosting a student panel with current students transferring to four-year schools.
10:15 - 11:00 AM	BSS/SEA Pathway - The BSS/SEA Pathway is designed to facilitate the academic and college success of South Bay Promise students by integrating Behavioral and Social Science curriculum, student equity and student services in courses that are designated myPATH. The myPATH designation means that faculty teaching these courses have received equity-minded and culturally responsive training through the Student Equity and Achievement Program. Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOP&S) - EOP&S is dedicated to the delivery of a comprehensive program that encourages the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students who are challenged by language, social, economic, and educational disadvantages. First Year Experience (FYE) - The FYE program is designed to prepare you for academic success and to help you in selecting the career path that's right for you. This program is designed for students that are entering El Camino College directly from high schools. Honors Transfer Program (HTP) - HTP is designed to better prepare the highly motivated student to transfer successfully to a university and complete a bachelor's degree. The HTP provides a unique learning environment that stresses academic excellence and develops the awareness necessary to achieve this goal. Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement Program (MESA) - MESA provides support to community college students who are majoring in math or science so they excel academically and transfer to four-year institutions. MESA is based on a rigorous academic program that uses various components to support students pursuing math and science based degrees. Program components build an academically based peer community to provide student support and motivation. Project Success (now Umoja) - Project Success is a learning community looking to enhance the cultural and educational experiences of African-American and other students. Puente Project - The mission of the Puente Project is to increase the number of educationally underserved students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors to future generations. Warrior-Toro Computer Science Pathway Program - Warrior-Toro CS Pathway is a support program in partnership with Cal State Dominguez Hills that provides a pathway to complete a Computer Science B.S. degree.
11:15 - 12:00 PM	Athletics - This session will discuss how to join a competitive intercollegiate team at El Camino College. Career Center - The mission of El Camino College Career Center is to offer quality comprehensive career counseling and services to all students. The Career Center faculty and staff aims to encourage and inspire students to achieve career and life goals by exploring their values, interests, personality traits, aptitudes and skills. Financial Aid 101 - This workshop will address why it is important to apply for financial aid and how students can remain in good standing. Special Resource Center (SRC) - The purpose of this program is to assist students with disabilities to perform on an equal basis with non-disabled students in an integrated campus setting. Transfer Strategies - This workshop will address the many transfer opportunities that students have when they enroll at El Camino College. It’s never too early to start thinking about the future. Undocumented Student Resources - Learn about the AB 540 state law and resources for students who identify as Dreamers. Veterans Resource Center - The Veterans Services Office provides assistance to veterans and eligible dependents in planning educational programs and maintaining compliance with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations. It is important that VA beneficiaries notify the Veterans Services Program of any changes in enrollment.
12:05 - 1:15 PM	New Student Orientation - New students are highly encouraged to attend an orientation. At orientation, students will learn about the various academic opportunities such as certificates, associates degrees, and transfer. You will also learn about the various campus resources and academic support programs. Attending an orientation is part of completing the Path to Enroll. Orientation is required for South Bay Promise applicants. You must have applied to El Camino College in order to attend this session.
