How to Apply

To apply for financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) and also consider scholarships to provide you additional financial stability while you attend ECC. 

Financial Aid

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step toward applying and getting federal aid for college. El Camino College will use your FAFSA data to determine your eligibility for state and federal school aid. All students are encouraged to complete and submit a FAFSA by March 2nd of each year. To renew your application for Financial Aid please apply for the following school year starting on October 1st of each year.

Assembly Bills 130 & 131, known as the California Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2011, are laws that increase access to financial aid for undocumented students who attend a public university, community college or private college in California.

The DREAM act allows undocumented students to receive scholarships administered by public institutions (AB-130) and state funded grants including Cal Grants, California College Promise Grant and university grants (AB-131). Complete the California Dream Act Application if you meet the requirements for AB 540 and you are not eligible to apply for the FAFSA.

A diverse array of scholarships recognize academic achievement, financial needs, leadership and community service, affiliation with campus clubs and organizations, and international students. Access the El Camino College Foundation Scholarship Application online through MyECC. Log in with your MyECC username and ID and click the “Scholarship Application” link.

Cost of Attendance (COA)

The cost of attendance (COA) is the estimated total amount it will cost you to go to El Camino College for that year. The enrollment fee for upper-division bachelor degree program courses is $130 per unit. All other fees remain are the same as an El Camino College student. The table below provides a detailed breakdown of required fees and others that are optional.

The annual budget for residents to attend the ECC Bachelor Degree Program is $20,653 if living at home with a parent or $30,931 if living off campus. The annual non-resident budget to attend the ECC Bachelor Degree Program is $27,757 if living at home and $38,035 if living off campus.

Financial Aid Programs

The California College Promise Grant (CCPG), waives the enrollment fees and tuition for eligible California residents attending a California Community College. California residents may apply by completing a FAFSA application. Students with AB540 status may apply by submitting the CADAA. Students may also submit a manual application to eccfaid@elcamino.edu or submit in person at SSB-229. CCPG awards begin in the fall term of each academic year and must be renewed every year. Required fees such as the Student Health Fee and Student Representation Fee are not covered by the CCPG and must be paid each term.

Cal Grants are offered by the State of California and administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). Cal Grants are available for undergraduate students who are enrolled in at least six units per semester and who have not earned a bachelor’s degree.

Cal Grant amounts for 3rd and 4th year students are $1,648 for Cal Grant B

In addition to Cal Grant, the Student Success Completion Grant (SSCG) is a financial aid program for Cal Grant B and C recipients attending a California Community College full-time (12 units or more). The purpose of the SSCG grant award is to provide the student with additional financial aid to help offset the total cost of community college attendance, and to encourage full time attendance and successful on-time completion.

SSCG awards for student enrolled full time is $1,298 per semester or $2,596 per year. If enrolled in 15 units or more the award is $4,000 per semester or $8,000 per year.

Designed for undergraduate students, Federal Pell Grants are based on your financial need, the cost of attendance at your school, and more.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a grant that is awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates exceptional financial need to help pay for their education. Awards can range from $300–$600 and do not need to be repaid.

The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) gives eligible students the opportunity to work on or off campus and earn money to supplement expenses not covered by grants or loans. To apply and participate in the FWS program, you must enroll at least half time (six units) during the fall and spring semesters. 

A Federal Direct Student Loan is financial aid that must be paid back with interest. El Camino participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program, offering low-interest education loans for students to help pay for college costs. There is no credit check or cosigner required to qualify.

Loan Limit Amounts for 3rd and 4th year students are $5,500 Subsidized and $7,000 Unsubsidized.

The following is an Estimated Disbursement Schedule of when students who qualify for Financial Aid as part of the Bachelor Degree Programs can expect their aid to be transmitted. All dates are estimated and subject to change based upon the system.
