Student Health Services treats short-term medical conditions, and most services are provided without charge, except nominal fees for some laboratory tests and medications. Appointments are available in-person or virtually.

Student Health Services (SHS) provides comprehensive health care and mental health resources, as well as a variety of specialty services. All registered students who have paid the Student Health Fee may use Student Health Services.

SHS is staffed with professionally licensed nurse practitioners and plays a vital role in helping you achieve your academic and personal goals while at El Camino.

  • After completing the necessary form(s) and self-scheduling your appointment in the secure patient portal, you will receive your appointment confirmation immediately.

Meet the Medical Staff

Doris Lyonga, MD, MBA

Dr. Doris Lyonga received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1975 and an MBA degree from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School in 1995. She specializes in internal medicine, hematology and oncology. Dr. Lyonga joined the Student Health Center in 2015 as the medical director.

 

Nohea Avery, Nurse Practitioner 

Nohea received her master’s of nursing from California State University of Dominguez Hills in 2011 and is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also an alumna of El Camino’s nursing program. As a nurse practitioner, she has worked with patients of all ages, from infants to the geriatric population, and finds the young adult and college population to be fun and intriguing, while keeping her on her clinical toes. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and son, especially outdoors and at the beach.

Vickie Z Beckwith, RN, MSN, PHN

Vickie completed her MSN degree in Nursing Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She received her School Nurse Services Credential from California State University, Northridge and undergraduate degree from University of California at Los Angeles. She has been a registered nurse for over 25 years. She is passionate about public health and emergency medicine with a special interest in school health as well as community mental health and wellness. She is also a retired colonel from the United States Air Force where she served as a flight nurse as well as a clinical and mental health educator both nationally and around the world.

Lina M. Berrio, RN, MPH, BSN

Lina is a registered nurse with a BSN from Mount St. Mary's University and an MPH from the University of Queensland, Australia. She is passionate about emergency medicine, mental health and public health. She previously worked in the Emergency Department at Long Beach Memorial. Lina also served in the U.S. Air Force for 14 years where she worked as a healthcare administrator.

 

Chris Campbell, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC

Chris has been a family nurse practitioner since 1998 and has been working at the ECC Student Health Center since 2021. She is also a full-time faculty member in the School of Nursing at California State University, Long Beach. Her areas of interest lie in the health of college students and in nursing education.

 

Mary Costa, PHN, MSN, FNP-C

Mary has been a board certified FNP since graduating from UCLA in 1997. She worked in emergency medicine for over 25 years. She has also worked in the student health field for the past 5 years. She enjoys working with the college population and wants to help students become knowledgeable about their health. 

 

Courtney Crockett, RN, BSN

Courtney has been working as a registered nurse since receiving her BSN degree at California State University, Long Beach in 2017. Previous work experience includes the ICU at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. She has been working as a registered nurse at El Camino's Student Health Center since 2021 and enjoys helping students to promote their health and well-being.

 

Aileen Kizlinski, Family Nurse Practitioner-BC, MSN

Aileen has been a licensed NP since 2003 and has been working with Student Health Services at ECC since 2017. In addition to working at ECC, she teaches in a nursing program for a local university. Her areas of interest are health promotion and education. She has many years of experience working with a diverse clientele and enjoys working with college students.

 

Julie Poepoe, DNP, FNP-BC

Julie is board certified as a Family NP. She received her doctorate of nursing practice from UCSF in 2020 and her MSN/family nurse practitioner from UCLA in 2003. She has been with ECC Student Health Center since 2012 and is passionate about preventative medicine and offering an individualized approach to patient care.

 

Sandra Sloan, RN, BSN

Sandra is a registered nurse with a BSN from CSU Dominguez Hills. Previous work experience includes Cardiac ICU at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. Sandra enjoys working with the students and providing care in the outpatient environment.
