The Council on Advancing and Unifying Student Equity (CAUSE) is the newest iteration of what was previously known as the Students' Unity Network (S.U.N.), and prior to that known as the Student Equity Advisory Council (SEAC). CAUSE's mission is to empower affinity organizations by giving them a voice and a vote on the Council on Advancing and Unifying Student Equity (CAUSE). CAUSE is a student-led organization that hosts discussions and supports student-facing organizations through promoting or funding equity initiatives or projects.
CAUSE's goal is to help address the needs of student groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. CAUSE’s vision is to establish equity, increase student diversity, promote inclusion, and further accessibility efforts for the students at El Camino College.
CAUSE, in partnership with ASO, ICC, and the clubs that makeup membership of CAUSE, sponsor and host several events throughout the year. Stay tuned to see what's next!
CAUSE meetings are open to the public.
CAUSE has developed a two-pronged test that shows if an Organization (Club or Office) is eligible for membership on CAUSE.
Membership entails a voting seat on CAUSE. This means that your organization will have to send an internally appointed representative to all CAUSE meetings. All representatives on CAUSE get an equal vote and all serve different communities at El Camino College.
CAUSE stands for the Council on Advancing and Unifying Student Equity.
CAUSE was founded because there was a critical need to bring together all of the different equity organizations at El Camino College to ensure that no student goes unrepresented.
Any organization can request funding or assistance from CAUSE, but it is up to the council to decide if the request is fulfilled.
