EEO Advisory Committee

Participation in the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Advisory Committee and any of its Subcommittees are open to all current employees and students. Below is a description of each committee. If you would like to get involved and become a member, please feel free to reach out during normal business hours via email to jcishikawa@elcamino.edu or via phone at 310-660-3813.

Committees: 

  • EEO General Committee: Assists in promoting an understanding and support of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policies and procedures, and sponsors events, training, or other activities that promote equal employment opportunity, nondiscrimination, retention, and diversity. In this meeting you may get updates on what each of the subcommittees are working on.
  • Recruitment & Outreach EEO Subcommittee: Review existing outreach/recruitment practices that are oriented to the economically disadvantaged and minoritized populations; recommend criteria for determining when targeted outreach/recruitment be used; identify specific publications, conferences, job fairs, and other methods of outreach & recruitment.
  • Screening & Selection Process EEO Subcommittee: Review the recruitment process (all steps and levels) relevant to EEO issues to ensure that processes and procedures are helping to reduce implicit biases.
  • Measures of Underrepresentation EEO Subcommittee: Collect longitudinal data identifying any significantly underrepresented group where actual representation is below 80% of projected representation (i.e., representation of student demographics and/or community demographics). 
  • EER/Committee Member Training EEO Subcommittee: Training on Title 5, state and federal non-discrimination laws, workforce diversity, elimination of bias in hiring decisions; screening best practices; training on screening/selection techniques (including interview questions) designed to give applicants an opportunity to demonstrate sensitivity/understanding of diverse student backgrounds and the District’s multiculturalism; training committees on how to interpret and use racial and gender aggregated data by department when reviewing applicant pools.
  • Campus Climate Survey EEO Subcommittee: Seeks to analyze employee/applicant statistics to address underrepresentation through survey questions such as: input on outreach/recruitment efforts; reasons people leave El Camino College; employee satisfaction and sense of belonging; employee views/definitions on diversity as perceived within departments/divisions and throughout the campus, community, etc.
  • Professional Development - Guest Speakers/Workshops/Events/Training EEO Subcommittee: Identify, prioritize and develop training and workshop opportunities in support of the EEO Plan.

EEO Representative Training

Are you interested in getting involved as a member of an ECC search committee to help protect the integrity of the selection process? Then we invite you to attend this training to become an Employment Opportunity Representatives (also referred to as EEO or EER)! EERs can be full-time faculty, part-time faculty, full-time classified employees and managers. 

An EER serves on all ECC full-time search committees to ensure that the process is equitable and fair for all applicants. All EERs are required to annually attend training and complete the EER quiz. Please note that this is an expanded version of the training that is required in order to be placed on the eligibility list. This training is only offered intermittently.
