Course Restrictions & Division Dean Approval

Students in grades K-10 need to obtain Division Dean Approval to dual enroll in El Camino College classes. Some academic divisions limit dual enrollment only to students who have completed the 10th grade (see Course Restrictions). There are also a few courses that require Division Dean Approval for students in grades 11 and 12.

NOTE: Students are considered to be in 11th grade (no longer need to obtain Division Dean Approval for most courses) starting the summer after they complete the 10th grade.

Division Dean Approval

To request Division Dean Approval, students can email the appropriate El Camino College dean or director. Requests must include:

Completed Dual Enrollment Application form
Copy of High School (or Middle School) Transcripts

Use this list to find the name and email address of the approver for each course subject (i.e. Mathematics, Chemistry, etc.)

List of Approvers

K-10 students must obtain Division Dean Approval for each course listed on their Dual Enrollment Application form. Division Dean Approval does not guarantee a seat in a class. Students must still meet any course prerequisites and complete the registration process.

Anthropology courses (except Honors courses), Ethnic Studies courses, History 140 and 141, Child Development 103, and Human Development 101 and 105 are now available to 10th grade students who obtain Division Dean Approval.	NOTE: Students are considered to be in 11th grade when enrolling for the summer following 10th grade. Division Dean Approval is not required for 11th and 12th grade students except for Physical Education activity courses and Contemporary Health courses. The Health Sciences and Athletics Division does not permit Dual Enrollment in Physical Education activity courses offered during the summer or winter terms, or in any Boxing, Self-Defense, or Martial Arts courses. The Fine Arts Division does not permit Dual Enrollment in any Life Drawing course. K-12 students are also responsible for clearing any prerequisites prior to registration.
