Transfer Resources

The Honors Transfer Program provides the support you need to successfully transfer to your next educational institution. Perhaps you intend to transfer to one of the many University of California or California State University campuses. Maybe you have your heart set on a private institution or a school outside of California. Wherever you decide to transfer, the HTP ensures you are prepared.

El Camino College's Honors Transfer Program has two popular and highly beneficial transfer partnerships with UC Irvine and UCLA. UCLA's Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) provides admission consideration to certain majors and alternate major consideration. UC Irvine's Honors to Honors (H2H) grants early acceptance and guaranteed admission to the Campuswide Honors Collegium.

Both programs require students complete the HTP Intent to Transfer Form in order to be eligible for honors transfer benefits.

ALMOST AN ANTEATER

Do you intend to transfer to UC Irvine? Students must be nominated through the HTP in order to be eligible for honors transfer benefits.

HTP students submitting an application to UC Irvine must complete the HTP Intent to Transfer Form to request nomination to H2H. The Intent to Transfer Form deadline is earlier for those who are transferring to UC Irvine (early December).

BRUIN BOUND

Do you intend to transfer to UCLA? Students must be TAP certified through the HTP in order to be eligible for honors transfer benefits.

HTP students submitting an application to UCLA must complete the HTP Intent to Transfer Form to be considered for TAP certification. The Intent to Transfer Form deadline is in mid-December.

UCLA's Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) allows students to transfer to UCLA at the junior level from El Camino College. Students are certified upon completing the HTP and given priority consideration for admission to the college.

Students finishing the HTP this academic year: we will hold TAP certification workshops (on Zoom) in January/February. Sign up for only ONE date (space is limited) and make sure to attend. You must register in advance for one of the workshops. Upon registering, you will receive a confirmation email with a Zoom link.

TAP Certification Workshop Dates:

  • Check back in December for workshop dates.

How to Be TAP Certified

  1. You must be applying to a major within the College of Letters and Sciences.
  2. You must have a minimum 3.2 GPA (UC transferable).
  3. If you are applying to UCLA in an impacted major (see list, below), you must have at least a 3.4 overall GPA, and at least a 3.0 GPA in your major prep. If your GPA is between 3.2 and 3.4, you MUST declare an alternate major and meet with a transfer counselor. If you do not, we will NOT TAP certify you. View the UCLA Transfer Admission Guide.
  4. If you are applying to UCLA in a non-impacted major, you must have at least a 3.2 overall GPA, and at least a 3.0 in your major prep and meet with a transfer counselor. If you do not meet these requirements, we will NOT TAP certify you.
  5. We strongly recommend that all of our students who are planning to be TAP certified declare an alternate major, whether your major is impacted or not.
  6. You must list your major and alternate major on your UC application when you apply in the fall. These CANNOT be changed subsequently, so be sure that you meet with a transfer counselor BEFORE you complete your application to ensure that you are listing appropriate majors for both your primary and alternate.
  7. You must have completed all major prep for both your major AND your alternate major.
  8. You must attend a TAP workshop at ECC.

Your alternate major may NOT be one of the following selective majors:

  • Biochemistry
  • Biology
  • Business Economics
  • Communication Studies
  • Economics
  • English
  • Global Studies
  • Human Biology & Society (BA, BS)
  • International Development Studies
  • Life Sciences Majors (see UCLA TAG admission guide)
  • Financial Actuarial Mathematics
  • Mathematics/Economics
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Statistics

Note: The alternate major must be listed on the original UC Application and match what is written on the TAP Certification Form. Requests to add or change the alternate major after application submission will not be considered. This applies to all alternate majors at UCLA.

The honors program played a pivotal role in my success at El Camino College because it was challenging, while also allowing me to have unique opportunities like conducting and sharing research. In addition, it was through my participation with the program that I met some of the most helpful and inspirational peers and mentors who always motivated me to set and achieve my goals."
