CARE Program
Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a state-funded program developed to provide educational opportunities and support for single parents receiving CalWORKs/TANF cash aid for their retention and academic success.
What Can CARE Do for You?
The primary purpose of CARE is to assist eligible parenting students in achieving
their educational goals through academic support.Contact UsThe intent of the program is to provide support services that help parenting students to acquire the education, training, and marketable skills needed to transition to employment and eventual self-sufficiency.
Student participants are eligible to receive EOPS support services with additional services, including:
- CARE Supplemental Grant (Must meet SAP standards)
- Transportation assistance
- On-campus meal assistance
- Community and campus referrals
- Rainbow Services

The CARE service window is located in the Student Services Building, 2nd floor, EOPS Office, room 227 and will be open from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday.

Learn More
- You are a recipient of TANF/ CalWORKs (ATTENTION: Student or child must be receiving cash aid)
- You are at least 18 years of age
- You are single head of household
- You have at least one child in your custody
To qualify for the CARE program, you must also meet EOPS eligibility:
- Must be a California resident or AB540 or AB1899
- Must be enrolled at ECC full-time (12 units or more*) when accepted into the program
- Must not have completed more than 70 degree-applicable units (including all colleges/universities)
- Must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application and be eligible for the California College Promise Grant (SBOG) Income Standards under Method A, B, or C with zero family contribution.
- Must have an educational need in ONE of the following areas:
- Not qualified for enrollment in the minimum level English or mathematics course required for an associate degree.
- Did not graduate from high school or obtain a GED.
- High school graduate with GPA below 2.5.
- Previous enrollment in remedial courses.
- Other factors (e.g., first-generation college student, primary language spoken at home is not English, foster youth, required to enroll in a supplemental course for English and/or math).
- Meet with a EOPS/CARE Counselor or Advisor a minimum of three times per semester.
- Be in compliance with the EOPS Student Mutual Responsibility Contract
- Complete Agency Certification annually
Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) was established in 1982 as a supplemental component of the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) at El Camino College.
The intent of the program is to provide support services that help single parenting students acquire the education, training, and marketable skills needed to transition from welfare dependency to employment and eventual self-sufficiency.
