English and Math Placement Survey

After receiving your ECC Student ID Number and MyECC username and temporary password, you can complete the English and Mathematics Placement Survey found on your MyECC page (student home screen). El Camino College may use one or more of the following measures to assess your academic preparation and placement:

  • High school GPA and coursework
  • Completion of the English and Mathematics Survey after you log in to MyECC
  • Providing proof of previous college coursework to an ECC counselor or ECC academic division
  • Earning a qualifying score on advanced placement tests while in high school (must show transcript and scores if using the Prerequisite Clearance Form)
  • Earning a “standard exceeded” score on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress CAASPP

Warrior Tip: We recommend having your high school transcripts at hand so you can refer to them as you complete the placement survey.

Do I need to take the English and Math Placement Survey?

Yes, new students who completed high school in the United States within the last 10 years will be placed into a math and English course based on one or more of the following:

  • Student's unweighted high school grade point average
  • The level of courses a student took in high school
  • The grades that student earned in their high school classes

Mostly all students can expect to be placed into transfer-level math and English courses. Students who can benefit from additional help will have a placement that requires them to take a corequisite course along with the transfer-level math or English course.

You will need to visit our Mathematics and English department for proper placement. Please see contact information below.
