The BSS/SEA Pathway is designed to facilitate the academic and college success of Southbay Promise Students by integrating Behavioral and Social Science curriculum, student equity and student services in courses that are designated myPATH. The myPATH designation means that faculty teaching these courses have received equity-minded and culturally responsive training through the Student Equity and Achievement Program.

In addition, myPATH designated courses integrate the following to facilitate student academic and college success:

  • Equity-minded/culturally responsive instructional and curriculum designs.
  • Content exploration through themes that matter to students and tackle global, national, regional and local level issues.
  • Counselors to assist students in academic/career planning so that immediate and long range academic and career goals can be achieved.
  • PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) Mentor Program to assist students with course content, study-related problems and general advice on a wide range of topics relating to student equity and student success.
  • Career, major and transfer target college/university directed exploration.

South Bay Promise students who successfully participate in the BSS/SEA Pathway will have learned in a unique equitable environment and have achieved the following after their first academic year at El Camino College:

  • Complete three Behavioral and Social Science courses that are transferable to the University of California and the California State University systems.
  • Complete Area 4 Social and Behavioral Social Sciences on IGETC and Area D Social Sciences on CSU GE.
  • Be introduced to the disciplines that make up Behavioral and Social Sciences and be instructed on the academic skillsets necessary for success in Behavioral and Social Science curriculum.
