Online Prerequisite Clearance Process
The Online Prerequisite Clearance Form is the convenient way to have prerequisites cleared to register for specific classes for the upcoming semester.

Note: If you are requesting a clearance and you are currently enrolled in the prerequiste class, you will need your instructor to forecast your grade (El Camino students), or ask your instructor to provide a letter stating that you will be passing the class (instructor must include their name and contact information).
Additional Information - New to College Students (no prior college coursework)
If you are a new to college student (from high school), fill out the English and Math
Placement survey, located on your MyECC account. Click here for more information on the survey.
The Counseling Office can take up to 3-5 business days to process your request, especially
during the registration period.
If you are transferring to El Camino from another college/university and need your
transcripts fully reviewed by a counselor, you can schedule a counseling appointment.
**In general, prerequisite clearances sent during school holidays will be reviewed the next business day. During peak registration times, the review time can be 3-5 business days, or more.**
Steps for the Prerequisite Clearance Process
If you believe a course taken at another college or university meets the prerequisite for an El Camino College course you to enroll in, you can fill out the Prerequisite Clearance form to have a counselor review your coursework. Your El Camino student ID number is needed for this form.
Make sure that you fill out the form completely and that all attachments have your identifying information – name, student ID number, name of the college/university, etc. Clearances with incomplete documents will be delayed and/or denied. Screenshots of transcripts with missing information will be denied.

The hours of operation for the online prerequisite clearance processing are generally Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Emails received after hours will be reviewed the next business day. Allow three to five business days for processing online clearance requests. School holidays and peak registration times will delay reviewing/processing time.
What is a Prerequisite?

What is a Corequisite?
A course taken simultaneously to enroll in another course.
What is a Recommended Preparation?
A recommended, but not required, course taken with or before another course. You are able to enroll in any class with a Recommended Preparation.
