Counseling Success Coach Program

Success Coach duties are, but are not limited to:

• Serve as members of the Counseling Guided Pathways Teams
• Work collaboratively with counselors to support student success and counseling-related initiatives
• Supervise drop-in advising and First Semester Plans (FSP)
• Facilitate and coordinate student success workshops, new student orientations, and campus-wide events.
• Attend counseling-related professional development and shared governance training sessions and meetings.

Success Coaches must complete a 3-day orientation before the beginning of the semester, followed by required ongoing 1-hour training with the program coordinator and campus partners throughout the academic year.

• The 2023-2024 application is closed. The next application cycle will be Spring 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year. Should positions suddenly become vacant there may be a mid-year application opportunity. Please check back frequently for updates.  

Upon applying, applicants will be screened and notified by email whether an interview is granted.  

• To be eligible, applicants must be current graduate students registered in a counseling-related Master's program in areas such as Clinical psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Educational Counseling, Guidance Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling. If hired, candidates will be required to provide proof of enrollment.
• Postgraduates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

During my first month as a Success Coach, I had the opportunity to connect with a Veteran student who was dealing with many difficulties. Our 30 minute check-in turned into an hour of life conversations, where I compassionately listened to him and shared resources I found valuable. Later that week I was surprised by an email from the student - where he included my supervisor, some directors and the VP of Student Services - in which he thanked us for the work that we do. I was humbled to later receive a Warrior PRIDE Award, as I had been nominated by the Veteran Services Director, and was recognized publicly in the Presidents’ Newsletter. The words of gratitude extended to me reminded me of the meaningful impact I could have on students as a Success Coach and it was a role that I was honored to do.
