El Camino’s Office of Marketing & Communications Wins Gold Awards

November 9, 2022 Torrance, CA

The El Camino College Office of Marketing & Communications recently won three gold, one silver, and two bronze Medallion Awards from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR). The gold awards recognize the college’s exemplary work in event planning, video, and booklet production categories. ECC Executive Director of Marketing & Communications Ann O’Brien and Assistant Director of Marketing & Operations Amy Hanoa accepted the awards on the college’s behalf at the 2022 NCMPR District 6 Conference in San Diego.

Taking top honors in a “special event” category is El Camino’s “CommUnity Walk Against Hate,” an on-campus response against increased episodes of racism and hate crimes against members of the Asian American Pacific Islanders community in the South Bay. The event had a remarkable turnout from the community, attracting participants and elected officials, and was honored with the “Educate, Celebrate, Elevate Diversity Award” by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce.

Another gold award went to the college’s “Path of Our Dreams: Celebrating 75 Years at El Camino College” video. The 2.5-minute video presents an overview of the college’s history and legacy, and illustrates current progress by spotlighting today’s students, academic programs, and activities.

Gold was also awarded to El Camino’s 64-page commencement program for 2022. Designed intentionally to mark the college’s 75th anniversary as well as the first in-person commencement ceremony in almost three years, the publication was completely revamped from previous versions; the most notable change being a new full-color design. The booklet also includes name listings from three different graduating classes and links to the post-event webpage that provides information about joining the alumni network, and more.

In addition, a silver award in the “wild card” category honored a one-of-a-kind 75th Anniversary Commencement Photo Opportunity display for graduates and their guests. A large-scale “ECC 75” in college colors was positioned in front of a step-and-repeat photo backdrop and adorned with a festive balloon garland.

Bronze awards went to the college’s completely new Outreach Viewbook, designed to help prospective students and their families get an idea of what it is like to be an El Camino student, and to a special 75th Anniversary commemorative logo, designed specifically for the Class of 2022 that was featured on graduation stoles and as a medallion on this year's graduation tassels.

The National Council for Marketing & Public Relations is the only organization of its kind that exclusively represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges. NCMPR has more than 1,600 members from nearly 550 colleges across the United States and Canada.
