Each year, El Camino College honors a one adjunct faculty member each year for demonstrating the highest level of commitment to their students, the College, and their profession.

Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award Overview

The El Camino College Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award is presented annually to an adjunct faculty member whose contributions demonstrate commitment to outstanding service to the District. 

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the college community, students past and present, or persons in the community-at-large. 

 

The recipient will be honored at an Academic Senate meeting and will be presented with a monetary award ($700) and an award certificate. 

 

Any current, certificated adjunct faculty member (teaching and non-teaching) who has worked at El Camino College for a minimum of four (4) semesters is eligible for nomination (excluding winter and summer sessions).

 

The Faculty Development Committee will ensure that the nominated faculty members are notified of their nominations. The nominees will submit the remaining required materials if they choose to be considered.

  • After being notified of their nominations, nominees are invited to submit the remaining required materials, including:
    A curriculum vitae,
  • Educational philosophy statement, and
  • Supporting documentation.

Only submissions following the instructions will be considered.

Criteria for Evaluating Nominees

Categories Description
Serving Students The nominee should be committed to serving students, either within the classroom as an instructor or outside the classroom as a librarian, counselor, or other student services faculty member. There should be evidence of ways in which the nominee has helped students to attain their educational goals.
Commitment to Education and Discipline The nominee should be committed to education. There should be evidence that the nominee maintains currency in the discipline and communicates to students and colleagues an enthusiasm for the discipline and for education in general.
El Camino College Mission The nominee’s pedagogy should reflect the fundamental principles of the El Camino College mission: “El Camino College makes a positive difference in people’s lives. We provide innovative and excellent comprehensive educational programs and services that promote student learning, equity, and success in collaboration with our diverse communities.”
Campus, Professiona, and/or Student Activities The nominee should demonstrate service to El Camino College through participation in campus, professional and/or student activities. There should be evidence of participation in institutional, division, departmental, and/or student groups.

The Selection Committee will include:

  • Academic Senate Vice President for Faculty Development
  • Two faculty members
  • President of the Associated Student Organization (or designee)
  • Academic Dean

Nominate a Candidate

To nominate a staff member you must complete the online “Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award” nomination form.

Letters of Nomination
Please upload a letter of nomination to the nomination form. The letter should meet the followin criteria:

  • Briefly describe the nominee’s qualifications for consideration as a recipient of the ECC Academic Senate Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award.
  • Should be no more than one (1) page in length, single-spaced.
