National Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) is observed in the United States from September 15 to October 15, recognizing and celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of the Latino communities whose ancestry can be traced to over 20 countries in Latin America, including Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.

El Camino College is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution (HSI), with Latinos representing the largest ethnic group on campus (52%).

Read the "Mi Casa, coffee and conchas and more: El Camino College celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month" article in The Union.

Background

The day of September 15 is also significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

Calendar of Events

Through the events and cultural highlights of Hispanic Heritage Month, we'll raise awareness, celebrate diversity, honor history and foster inclusion across campus.
