Degrees and certificates in Public Safety provide opportunities to work on the front line of serving the community and taking care of their needs. There are also opportunities to pursuing your educational goals, entering in an educational pathway to transfer, once completed, to four-year institutions.

With a faculty of high experience members, we are committed to provide outstanding education and programs that will prepare students in careers in public service areas, including Administration of Justice, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Firefighting, Law Enforcement, and Paramedic.

These programs provide engaging learning in a variety of settings to prepare students for high demand employment, well-paying employment, and serve as entry points for future degrees, career advancement, and wage growth pathways. Program Descriptions

The Administration of Justice Program prepares students for jobs in the field of criminal justice and all levels of law enforcement. The program offers a two-year  Associate Degree or Certificate in Administration of Justice, Homeland Security or Forensics. The two-year degree covers a broad range of information and professional skills in criminal law, corrections, and the American justice system. While this degree is intended for transfer, it also may lead to employment or advancement within the justice system. Students planning to transfer to a four-year university should complete the Associate Degree.

As one of the fastest growing professions today, occupations for AJ graduates include Police Officer, Highway Patrol, Sheriff Deputy, Correctional Officer, Investigator, Security Guard, Homeland Security, and Loss Prevention Manager, depending on the level of education and training.

The Fire Technology Program is approved by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the State Board of Fire Services as an accredited regional academy and offers several paths for those who have an interest in the fire service. These include a Certificate in Fire Technology, an Associate’s Degree in Fire and Emergency Technology, the Firefighter I Academy and "In-service" courses.

Students desiring a career in the fire service are strongly encouraged to obtain either a Certificate or Associate of Science Degree in Fire and Emergency Technology, Certificate in Fire Academy, Certificate in Fire and Emergency Technology, and Fire Explorer Certificate. If you desire to obtain certification as a Firefighter in the State of California, completion of the Firefighter 1 Academy is recognized as the minimum entry requirement. The Fire Technology Program also strives to provide a number of career development "In-service" training courses for those persons currently employed (either paid or volunteer) in the profession.

The EMT program is designed to offer comprehensive education and skills-training in the provision of prehospital emergency care. Courses cover anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, lifting and moving techniques, documentation, communication, lifespan development, obstetrics, disease processes, pharmacology, trauma, hazardous materials, disaster triage, basic life support and advanced airway management in accordance with National EMS Education Standards. The course completion certificate is a requirement of eligibility to complete the NREMT Cognitive Examination for EMTs (certifying exam for EMTs in the State of California). El Camino College EMT Program is nationally accredited and accredited though Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency.

Students desiring a career in emergency medical services are strongly encouraged to obtain their EMT certificate, or a Fire and Emergency Technology Certificate or an Associate of Science Degree in Fire and Emergency Technology.

The Paramedic program is designed to offer comprehensive educations and skills-training in the provision of advanced prehospital emergency care. The Paramedic program is nationally accredited and accredited through Los Angeles Emergency Medical Services Agency. It is an intensive program that includes three components: classroom, clinical (in hospital), and field internship. Paramedic students can achieve an Associate Degree in Fire and Emergency Technology, Paramedical Technician Certificate, or a Fire and Emergency Technology Certificate.
