Automotive Technology/Alternative Fuels K-14 Career Pathway:

Certificate of Accomplishment - Electric, Hybrid and Alternative Fuels Vehicles

Open to 10th, 11th & 12th Grade Students

High School students who begin the pathway in the 10th or 11th grade and complete all required classes will be eligible to earn a Certificate of Accomplishment in Electric, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Vehicles by their high school graduation.

Electric & Hybrid Vehicles are the Future of Transportation in California and the nation! By 2035, all new cars and light duty trucks sold in California must be zero emission vehicles (ZEV), this includes plug-in hybrid vehicles. California investment in electric, hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles means there will be a high demand for specialty automotive mechanics.

Hybrid, Electric and other types of Zero Emission vehicles are very different from gas-powered cars where mechanics work with grease, oil, and lots of moving parts. Instead these types of vehicles are more like mobile computers which require mechanics who understand and enjoy working with technology, electronics, and computers. Due to a large number of retirements there will be a shortage of speciality auto mechanics.
