Parents and family members play a pivotal role in college student success. Our first-gen family orientations are here to support you and your student's academic journey.
The transition from high school to college can be overwhelming for new students. Family is critical in promoting student achievement and is something we value highly in our program. The First Year Experience (FYE) Program is proud to host first-gen parent and family orientations geared toward the parents or family of admitted FYE first-gen students.
Families of admitted FYE students are invited to attend our annual “Family Orientation." This event is designed to:
FYE Family Orientation(In-Person: East Dining Room)
Monday, August 23 from 5pm-7pm
FYE Family Orientation(Zoom/Online)
Tuesday, August 24 from 5pm-7pm
Reminder: Due to the limited amount of seats available this reception is ONLY for FYE Family members. Please do not bring your FYE student. FYE will host a separate event for FYE admitted students.
The term first-gen is often used to refer to students who are the first in their families to attend a college or university. More broadly, a first-gen student is a student who's parents have not received a four-year degree from a college or university in the United States.
The First-Gen Parent Handbook is a quick guide to El Camino College and the support services and resources we offer.
