Parent Orientation

Parents and family members play a pivotal role in college student success. Our first-gen family orientations are here to support you and your student's academic journey.

The transition from high school to college can be overwhelming for new students. Family is critical in promoting student achievement and is something we value highly in our program. The First Year Experience (FYE) Program is proud to host first-gen parent and family orientations geared toward the parents or family of admitted FYE first-gen students.

Attend a Family Orientation

Families of admitted FYE students are invited to attend our annual “Family Orientation." This event is designed to:

  • Teach you about the programs and services offered
  • Give you an opportunity to meet our academic counselors, advisers, and teaching faculty
  • Inform you about valuable resources and tools to help your student succeed
  • Help you learn more about scholarship opportunities, campus initiatives, and transfer pathways to four-year institutions

Learn More

The term first-gen is often used to refer to students who are the first in their families to attend a college or university. More broadly, a first-gen student is a student who's parents have not received a four-year degree from a college or university in the United States.
