Claudia Striepe

Claudia Striepe joined the El Camino College faculty as an instruction librarian in 1998. For more than two decades, she has helped countless El Camino students become critical thinkers who are prepared to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting.

Driven by the belief that people learn best by being an active partner in their own education, Striepe engages students in hands-on activities, search strategies, and insights into their own perceptions and experiences so they can find the resources they need. In addition to her primary responsibility as an instruction librarian, Striepe works on the library reference desk, conducts workshops, serves on committees, and is currently the vice president of the El Camino College Academic Senate's Educational Policies Committee. When instruction moved online due to the pandemic, Striepe implemented different approaches to ensure students could actively engage with the subjects presented, while also communicating a welcoming approach and encouraging further interaction.

Striepe earned a Higher Diploma in Library Science (HDLS) from the University of South Africa, and a bachelor's degree in English, speech, and drama from the University of Natal Durban in South Africa. She is known for teaching students the importance of information literacy, giving them the tools they need to take a critical approach to research and information resources. One former student said Striepe taught her "so many things that I will continue to use throughout my studies and research for school."

DeVon Lamar Scott

De Von Lamar Scott is an admission specialist in Admissions & Records who truly embodies the "Students First" philosophy at El Camino College. From his first days in his position, he reorganized and communicated with faculty and staff to improve work flow and campus operations, leading to new solutions regarding registration issues. Colleagues say that Scott is always ready to meet students where they are, at any time. For example, he has made himself available throughout evenings and weekends for the International Student Program so he would be able to assist students in different time zones.

Scott is also known for his outstanding problem-solving skills and his famous saying, "Say no more. I got it." One faculty member noted, "even if he is not able to 'fix' every problem he tries, he communicates with clarity and kindness and gives advice for future ideas." Scott does not hesitate to go above and beyond to help a student or employee and does so with enthusiasm and determination to make sure the issue is resolved. His respect for others encompasses all students, faculty, and fellow staff members and is demonstrated through his professional and courteous demeanor.

An El Camino staff member for more than a decade, Scott's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in political science from California State University, Dominguez Hills, a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from San Diego State University, and he is currently pursuing a doctorate in organizational leadership at National University.
