Everyone is invited to celebrate ECC's Asian Pacific American Heritage Month throughout May. The celebration begins with "Liberty in North Korea: Presentation and Panel," where panelists from the nonprofit organization Liberty in North Korea will discuss experiences of North Korean refugees, 1-2 p.m. May 2 in the Student Activities Center, East Lounge. The presentation "Asian American Art and Culture" follows, featuring members of the Filipino Migrant Center who will discuss the role of art in the Asian American community, 5:30-7 p.m. May 3 in the Alondra Room.
During the event "Pilot Session," members of Empowering Pacific Islander Communities (EPIC) will help attendees learn how to support the Pacific Islander community at El Camino College, 1-2 p.m. May 18 in the East Dining Room. The celebration wraps up with the "Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Showcase," an opportunity for participants to learn about Asian American and Pacific Islander culture through performances and information from nonprofit organizations that support these communities, 1-2 p.m. May 25 on the Library Lawn and Student Activities Center stage.
All events are free and open to the public.
