Three El Camino College Trustees Take Oath of Office, Board Conducts Annual Reorganization Meeting

Three members of the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees, two re-elected and one newly elected, took the oath of office during the Board’s annual reorganization meeting on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Trisha Murakawa was re-elected to represent Trustee Area 3, which includes El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and a portion of Redondo Beach. The president of a South Bay communications firm, Murakawa has also served as a city commissioner in Redondo Beach for more than 25 years.

Katherine Steinbroner Maschler was re-elected to represent Trustee Area 4, which includes Lawndale, Alondra Park, and portions of Hawthorne and Torrance. For more than 30 years, Maschler has taught as an adjunct faculty member at several Los Angeles-area community colleges, including El Camino College.

Brett C.S. Roberts was elected as Trustee Area 1, representing Inglewood and Ladera Heights. Roberts is a community relations officer and local government affairs manager for L.A. Metro, overseeing three capital projects throughout Los Angeles County since 2019.

As part of its annual reorganization meeting, the Board of Trustees elected new officers of the Board for 2025. The Board re-elected Trustee Murakawa as Board President, and Trustee Maschler as Secretary. The Board also elected Area 2 Trustee (Hawthorne and Lennox) Nilo Vega Michelin to serve as Vice President. Area 5 Trustee Cliff Numark will also continue representing the District’s Torrance and Redondo Beach communities.  

The Board made additional committee assignments as well. Trustee Michelin will serve as the District’s representative to the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization. Trustee Roberts will represent the District at the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association. Trustee Maschler will continue to serve on the El Camino Community College District Foundation board. Trustee Murakawa will review nominations for membership on the California Community College Trustees Board and make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees.

While regular board meetings are open to the public and are generally scheduled for 5 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, the next regular meeting of the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees will take place on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 at 5 p.m. in the Kenneth A. Brown Board Room on the First Floor of the Administration Building.
