Whole Foods Sponsored Food Distribution
El Camino College teamed up with Whole Foods Inc., to distribute food for students and their families earlier this month, through a special partnership with the Retail Management Certificate program.
“We are grateful for the partnership with Whole Foods Market that will provide wholesome, organic food that will nourish our students both physically and emotionally,” expressed El Camino College President/Superintendent Dena Maloney. “Ensuring the health and welfare of our students is among our highest priorities at all times—especially now.”
The March 17 event was co-sponsored by ECC’s Business Division and its Retail Management Certificate program, which prepares employees for managerial positions within the retail industry. Further information about the Retail Management Certificate, can be accessed at www.elcamino.edu/business/retail.
The El Camino College Warrior Pantry was established by ECC’s numerous student leadership organizations to address food insecurity that some students face due to financial hardships sometimes experienced while paying for college. Research indicates that without proper nutrition, students can have trouble focusing on school work and often worry about where they will find their next meal. With the added complications brought on by COVID-19, the need is even greater.
In adherence to the COVID-19 social-distance requirements, the Warrior Pantry provides weekly “drive-thru” food distributions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus of El Camino College. Pre-packaged bags filled with various food items, toiletries, and other personal hygiene products were provided for students to pick up from the safety of their own vehicles, allowing ECC to keep the Warrior Pantry open and continue to serve our students during this challenging time.
