Rodnay Smith Named Commencement Student Speaker
TORRANCE—El Camino College student Ms. Rodnay Smith has been selected to be the student commencement speaker of the graduating Class of 2021, during the 74th Annual Commencement Ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, June 11. The ceremony will take place virtually, via Zoom.
“I am honored to be selected as this year’s commencement speaker because as a person who worked full time and attended school as well, I can contest to the hard work and dedication that each and every one of my classmates have put into their education thus far, and what a journey it has been,” Ms. Smith said.
Ms. Smith majored in Early Child Development, and will receive an Associate degree in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Child Development. She will transfer to California State University, Long Beach later this year.
Dr. Dena Maloney, who will be participating in her final commencement exercises as El Camino Superintendent/President, is excited to hear Ms. Smith’s address to the Class of 2021.
“One of the highlights of these ceremonies is hearing the introspective and inspirational words from the student speaker of the graduating class,” Dr. Maloney stated. “Our students have emerged from unprecedented challenges of a unique academic year with a sense of determination and pride that will serve them well in their future pursuits.”
