El Camino College Joins CVC Exchange Teaching College System
El Camino College recently became a California Virtual Campus (CVC) Exchange Teaching College, making it easier for students from across the state to seamlessly register for online classes. The CVC Exchange is a system-wide resource for the 116 California Community Colleges (CCC) that supports the CVC Exchange, which allows students to take online courses at another CCC while also enrolled in their own area college.
El Camino has been a part of the innovative CVC Exchange system as a “Home College” for several years. With that designation, El Camino courses were listed and students at other California Community Colleges could see if there were available seats in a course, but multiple steps involving applications, registration, and financial aid were required. As a Teaching College, a streamlined experience is now available to eligible students at any CCC campus.
“As online classes continue to be a major part of the college experience for the majority of learners across California, we are excited to join the list of Teaching Colleges connected through the CVC Exchange,” said El Camino Distance Education Faculty Coordinator Moses Wolfenstein. “This essential step allows more students across the state to find the amazing courses that El Camino faculty teach, and to benefit from these outstanding academic offerings and the student services we provide. Online and in person, everyone is welcome here.”
Being a Teaching College on the CVC Exchange also has potential to boost enrollment at El Camino while offering the classes students need most. Research shows a demand for online math and science classes with virtual labs, in addition to late-start and/or short-term classes. El Camino’s offerings in both areas are well positioned to meet this need with a large selection of STEM classes, and a variety of eight-week and six-week classes. In addition, El Camino offers a winter term with a wide range of courses that can be completed in an accelerated time frame. Students can search for classes on the CVC Exchange at www.cvc.edu.
Another important feature of the CVC Exchange is courses highlighted as “Zero Textbook Costs,” also known as ZTC, which offer an increased level of accessibility and affordability as students can fully participate in those classes without additional costs.
At just $46 per unit, El Camino College offers the same low fees for in-person and online classes. Financial aid, counseling, and other resources are available to help students succeed as they work toward their goals. Students can apply now at www.elcamino.edu.
