Skip the commute! El Camino College meets you where you are. Our Online Education programs help you advance your career or education while balancing work and family – and you’ll get the same one-on-one mentoring and support as if you were on campus.
Online learning is all about flexibility and convenience. Instead of commuting to campus, you’ll learn from the same professors and the same course materials through an interactive system called CANVAS.
There’s a lot of fun too! Your professors will use the latest technology and multimedia tools to keep lectures engaging, and you’ll get to know your classmates in a unique learning community.
Distance learning requires self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision – disciplines you’ll need for nearly every job out there.
Surprisingly, distance education courses require as much – if not more — work and time as traditional classes. Class assignments often require a lot of interaction and deep inquiry.
But even though online classes can be demanding, you’ll have the flexibility to work in your pajamas at home if you wish!
At this time, if you do not physically live in California you are not permitted to take fully online courses from El Camino College.
ECC does not have the required permission for students from other states to take courses at ECC. This permission is required to maintain eligibility for students of that state to receive federal financial aid.
Until further notice, ECC is not filing for authorization to operate in other states. We recommend that if you are seeking community college courses look for classes offered from an institution in your own state.
Some instructors require students to be online at a particular time to take quizzes or exams, or to participate in chat sessions. You’ll find details in the class syllabus in Canvas.
To have your name in Canvas changes to your True Name (reflects one's gender identity that may not be consistent with name given at birth. Please note, this is not a "nickname") fill out the Name/Gender/Pronouns/DateofBirthCorrection . Your name will be changed in Canvas, OneCard, and ECC Connect.

It’s very important to contact your instructor as soon as possible if you’re having trouble. They’re available by phone or email, and all full-time professors hold weekly office hours. You’ll find contact information in Canvas and your class syllabus.
If you find you need help with the course material, check out the free tutoring options available from the ECC Learning Resources Center (LRC). We’ll help you prepare for tests, learn new concepts, improve study techniques, and answer questions about assignments.
Support for SuccessYes, but in order to receive a “W” (Withdrawal), you must withdraw before the deadline. Check MyECC or the ECC Schedule of Classes for the current semester’s deadline dates.
Remember that dropping a course is your responsibility—your instructor is not responsible for dropping you from your course!
