New Confirmed COVID-19 Case at El Camino College

El Camino College received a confirmed report on May 1 that a member of the campus community has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus. To protect patient privacy, the individual’s information is considered confidential and will not be disclosed. This individual was last on campus on April 29. Individuals who may have been exposed to the person who tested positive have been ascertained, notified, and advised by the Director of Risk Management, Michael Pascual, to observe the 14-day period of self-quarantine recommended by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. If you did not receive an email notification from Michael Pascual, then you were not exposed. Areas the affected individual is known to have visited before testing positive for COVID-19 have been identified and will undergo thorough disinfection.

The entire El Camino College community sends this individual sincere wishes for a quick recovery.

As always, all El Camino College students and employees are asked to follow the directions given by public health officials and elected officials during this outbreak. This includes obeying the stay-at-home orders from Los Angeles County and the State of California, following correct social distancing practices, and continuing to maintain proper hygiene.

Actions El Camino College Has Taken

Prior to the stay-at-home orders being issued, El Camino College began moving all lecture classes and student services online. This action, taken March 13, was implemented while still delivering needed instruction and support.

We will remain in this online mode through the end of Summer Session. Lab and activity classes that cannot be supported otherwise were cancelled. The majority of campus employees are working remotely, with only select essential personnel allowed on campus. Students, all other employees, and the public must remain off campus.
