El Camino College received a confirmed report on June 9, that a member of the campus community has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus. To protect patient privacy, the individual’s information is considered confidential and will not be disclosed.
This individual tested positive on May 27, 2021, and was last on campus May 26. It has been confirmed that this individual has identified close contacts while on campus, who were notified and observed the required minimum 10-day isolation at home. The individual was in an open area of campus, was not in any building or facility, and did not use the restrooms. Thus, no cleaning or disinfection of areas is needed. It is important to know that transmission more commonly occurs via sustained face-to-face contact and through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Surface transmission is less common.
The entire El Camino College community sends this individual sincere wishes for a quick recovery. As always, all El Camino College students and employees are asked to follow the directions given by public health officials and elected officials during this outbreak. This includes obeying Health Officer most recent orders from Los Angeles County and the State of California.
