Warrior Speakers Wrap up Fall Semester at the Top

December 16, 2022 Torrance, CA

It wouldn’t be a good idea to start an argument with any members of the El Camino College Forensics Team as these students, local experts in the art of rhetoric, know how to win—all the time!

Before the semester’s final exams, El Camino’s Forensic students competed in four highly competitive speech tournaments last month; the Watson-Lancer Invitational held on the campus of Pasadena City College, the Crossman Invitational held at El Camino College, the Dahlin Invitational at Palomar College, and the Griffin Invitational at Grossmont College. Each tournament drew between 14-17 colleges and universities, including UC San Diego and Cal State Long Beach. Hundreds of students competed in these tournaments, with El Camino College winning enough points at each contest to win the overall top sweepstakes award.

At the Nov. 11 Dahlin tournament, El Camino swept the open (highest division) awards in the “Impromptu Speaking” category.  ECC’s Uzair Pasta, Jana Abulaban, and Mars Nored won first, second and third places respectively. Pasta also won the “Extemporaneous Speaking” title in addition to the “Limited Preparation” speaker title.

The following day, at the Griffin tournament, the Warrior Speakers displayed amazing dominance as Jacob Eredia, Alex Christenson, Mars Nored, Sophia Suh, Jeff Grusky and Danielle Kabboul (tied), completed the day as the top five finishers out of the tournament’s 54 competitors.

Several other ECC students took home top awards, including Cody Hagemeier, Sheriff Abdrahman, Peter Moore, Jessica Scully, Hameeda Uloomi, Sabrina Rashiq, Summer Bruneta, Jeff Grusky, Bri Rondeau, and Miguel Olivera.

El Camino College proudly congratulates these amazing students, and thanks Forensics Director Francesca Bishop, and faculty coaches Joseph Evans and Brittany Hubble for their commitment and leadership to our award-winning students.
