South Bay Promise Night Planned at El Camino College
Prospective students and their families are invited to El Camino College to learn how they can access a high-quality college education without paying enrollment fees at the upcoming South Bay Promise Night, set for 5:45-7:30 p.m. March 13 in Marsee Auditorium.
This informative on-campus event will highlight the benefits, requirements, and details about the South Bay Promise, a comprehensive program that helps students navigate college and earn a degree – debt free. Light refreshments will be provided.
English major Nat Peña said the South Bay Promise was a main reason she enrolled in El Camino after graduating from high school. For her, the program is a great way to save money on a quality college education, while also accessing support from counselors and other staff members.
“South Bay Promise has given me the financial freedom to take the classes I need without worrying about the cost,” she added. “It allows me to use my financial aid in ways that better prepare me for academic success.”
Open to all high school graduates and first-time college students who enroll full time at El Camino, the South Bay Promise offers two years of free enrollment fees, along with counseling, tutoring and additional support all the way through graduation. By creating a direct pathway to college, the South Bay Promise increases access, affordability, and success for all students not only in higher education, but in future careers and overall success. A main focus is ensuring new students feel prepared and ready to succeed in college.
Benefits include:
- Enrollment fees (up to 30 units per year) covered for the first two years– save $1,110
- Priority registration – register for classes early
- Academic planning and individualized counseling
- Free tutoring and other academic support services
In addition to a presentation, South Bay Promise Night will feature a support program resource fair that showcases the many specialized services students can use to customize their college experience at El Camino. Warrior athletics, Honors Transfer Program, career training pathways, tutoring, transfer pathways, counseling, reading and writing assistance, mentors, and career exploration are just some of the services available to students.
