New Trustee Appointed to Fill El Camino Community College District’s Vacant Seat

The El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees made a provisional appointment of Ms. MyLoc Dinh, resident of Torrance, to serve as the Area 5 Trustee until the next regularly scheduled election for Governing Board members on November 3, 2026.

The four Trustees made the appointment after interviewing ten candidates at a special board meeting on Thursday, December 18, at 4 p.m. Last month, the Board solicited applicants from Trustee Area 5 (which includes Torrance and parts of Redondo Beach) to serve the remainder of the term vacated by Cliff Numark on November 10.

Ms. Dinh was officially sworn in by Dr. Brenda Thames, El Camino College President/Superintendent at last night’s public special board meeting. A ceremonial oath of office will take place at the Board’s regular meeting in January, 21, 2026.  

Ms. Dinh has extensive experience in public service as a staff member for several state legislators within the state assembly and senate. She has served as a senior consultant for Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi from 2013-2015 directing statewide policy for the California Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace. Ms. Dinh has a demonstrated record of civic engagement and community involvement with the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Alliance, JET Alumni Association of Southern California (and Arizona), Asian Community at Vonage Employee Resource Group, and a very proud Girl Scout Troop leader.

Ms. Dinh has a Bachelor of arts degree in Linguistics from UC San Diego, a Juris Doctorate from Southwestern Law School, and speaks four languages including Japanese, Vietnamese and French.

Ms. Dinh’s provisional appointment becomes permanent in 30 days, unless a petition calling for a special election containing a sufficient number of signatures is filed in the office of the county superintendent of schools within that time frame.
