Kid’s College Invites Area Youngsters to Explore Campus Life at El Camino

July 12, 2023 Torrance, CA

El Camino College’s award-winning Kid’s College is offering a unique opportunity for young students to discover what college is all about.

A new “Kid’s College One-Day Exploration Camp” set for Thursday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will take youngsters on an action-packed adventure through El Camino’s Art Gallery, Social Justice Center, Library, and MESA (Mathematics, Engineering & Science Achievement) Center. Each of the four locations will feature unique activities to inspire students to investigate the merits of a college education while developing a sense of wonder and imagination for lifelong learning. A special luncheon featuring a “breakfast-for-lunch” theme and an ice cream sundae bar are included in this exciting day.

Open to students in grades one through eight, participants are grouped by age, and activities are customized for each age group.

“It’s never too soon to get kids excited about college!” said ECC Director of Community Education Betty Sedor. “Instilling a sense of excitement for El Camino College is the goal of this one-day event. We can’t wait to show off a few of our wonderful places, programs, and people. We hope to inspire a sense of connection to our campus; this is a place where all members of our community belong. We’d also like to start a conversation with our young students about taking college classes as early as high school through our dual enrollment program.”

El Camino has proudly served the South Bay for 75 years, offering outstanding college classes and resources, along with dual enrollment and career pathways for high school students. And the South Bay Promise makes college affordable, with no enrollment fees for first-time, full-time college students.

Kid’s College at El Camino offers not-for-credit workshops, camps, and classes designed for serious summer fun. Through this unique program, students can pursue new interests as they learn to find joy in work and creative endeavors.

An easy drop-off and pick-up location at the roundabout at Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Lemoli Avenue is available for campers.

Capacity for “Kid’s College One-Day Exploration Camp” is limited; students should register as soon as possible. Registration is required and must be completed online at www.ECCommunityEd.com.
