El Camino’s Travel Film Series Offers Eight Exciting Journeys for 2023-2024

El Camino College’s Center for the Arts recently announced an exciting new set of voyages for the Discovery World Travel Adventure Film Series. The 2023-24 season features eight action-packed adventures for matinee or evening viewing, with special season ticket prices that include parking and all service charges.

Award-winning cinematographers and documentary filmmakers capture faraway lands for the Discovery World Travel Adventure Film Series, putting audience members right in the middle of the action. Each film is personally narrated by the filmmakers, who tell firsthand stories about the journey, the filming process, and experiencing the terrain. The new season features new films and intriguing topics, all seen on the big screen in Marsee Auditorium – quality entertainment for all ages.

Turkey: Crossroads of Europe and Asia

As a bridge between Asia and Europe, Turkey is one of the great cradles of civilization. This is a land with 8,000 years of glories, tragedies, tremendous art and culture, and fabulous dreams. Darrah’s 90-minute high-definition, tour-de-force program highlights and celebrates the expansive and richly diverse country of Turkey.

Stories From Ukraine

Ray traveled to Ukraine and joined forces with its army to document the war. He arranged to travel by plane, train, and on foot to find the ordinary people who are determined to live their lives while those lives are torn apart by Russian attacks. Despite the horrors of war, this film focuses on how people thrive and flourish through adversity while still forging their identities and protecting their families.

USA Extreme: 50 Days, 50 States, 50 Challenges

Go on a wild ride with Michael Wigge across the United States! This travel project had him face 50 challenges in all 50 states in just 50 days. Adventures of a Wildlife Filmmaker: Part 2

Ravetch shares clips from his underwater and under ice adventures from the original “Planet Earth” series to his most recent film for the famous “Shark Week” series. Whether it’s coming face-to-fang with the great white shark, or face-to-snout with a polar bear, Ravetch shows nature and wildlife in action.

Colorado River

This film steps back in time to the year 1869 when Civil War veteran Major John Wesley Powell led the first expedition into the deep, hidden canyon lands of the Colorado River. In an epic adventure, 10 men challenged North America’s wildest and most furious river, paddling literally into the great unknown in their four small boats that were originally designed as Lake Michigan rowboats.

Galapagos

Galapagos is one of those places where humans are visitors, and wildlife rules the islands. It is a premier destination for photographing tortoises, iguanas, and birds, and a fantastic place to explore beaches, forests, and volcanic landscapes. You will be taken on a visual journey with Reid on some of his National Geographic assignments from years of visiting the Galapagos Islands.

Madagascar: A Land Out of Time

Three centuries ago, this island lured thousands of pirates from the Caribbean (including Captain Kidd). They used Madagascar as a base of operations for the seizing and plundering of ships of all flags in the Indian Ocean. It’s believed Robert Louis Stevenson used one of the islands of Madagascar, St. Mary, as the inspiration for his famous book “Treasure Island.”

All Discovery World Travel Adventure films are shown at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

El Camino Community College District encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. The eight-film ticket package is $96 for general admission and $80 for seniors and students. Season tickets are valid for either showing; service charges are waived in this package. Single tickets are $14-$16 each; tickets with senior and student pricing are also available. All tickets may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online system. Campus parking is included in the ticket price for all films; no permit required. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
