El Camino President to Lead Small Business Discussion and Resource Fair
El Camino College President Brenda Thames will lead a panel discussion as part of
an informative evening that invites the community to learn about starting and growing
a small business in the South Bay. Free and open to the public, “Community Connect: Starting and Growing Your Own Business” is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. June 4 in the college’s East Dining Room.
The event is first in a series of conversations led by President Thames that offers
information and resources to the community. Each semester, Community Connect will
facilitate informative discussions covering topics relevant to community interest
and improving quality of life.
At the upcoming small business event, Thames will guide a dialogue with a panel of
representatives from El Camino’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC), California
Office of the Small Business Advocate, Self Work by M.E., and CDC Small Business Finance
who will discuss launching a small business. The “Starting and Growing Your Small
Business” panel will explore opportunities to engage with industry experts while learning
practical tips, strategies, and pitfalls to avoid while starting a new enterprise.
Attendees can also find information about funding options and legal considerations.
In addition, a fair featuring South Bay resources designed to help those interested
in embarking on or enhancing their entrepreneurial journey will help connect participants
with area organizations and the SBDC, along with offering valuable insights on marketing,
funding, and networking.
