El Camino’s Marketing and Communications Win Gold Awards

December 9, 2024 Torrance, CA

El Camino College’s Office of Marketing & Communications recently won six Medallion Awards from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR), recognizing exemplary work with communications, design, branding, and marketing projects. Among the top prizes were two gold awards honoring the college’s social media and design efforts.

One gold award went to El Camino’s El Camino's Instagram channel. The social media source for campus initiatives and happenings, @elcaminoedu keeps the campus and community well informed through vibrant visuals, engaging posts, and student spotlights. Earlier this year, the platform achieved a milestone with 10,000 followers – a specific goal set by Marketing & Communications staff to expand the reach of the page and connect with even more people.

A logo for the college’s new LGBTQIA+ Pride Center also took a gold medal in its category. Developed through a collaboration between students and staff, the full-color logo represents and acknowledges the importance of students’ educational goals and their individuality. Since its launch, the logo has been used for numerous promotional items and in many marketing/advertising campaigns, from a lavender graduation celebration to the college’s annual Pride Week.

In addition, a silver medallion in the “interior signage/displays” category honored a set of 11 new banners that highlight El Camino’s career education programs. Retractable and portable, these banners are often displayed outside the division office in a high-traffic area and direct visitors to enrollment and program information online.

A silver was also awarded to a personalized letter designed to welcome new students and build excitement as they begin a new chapter of their lives at El Camino. A bit different from the college’s regular communications via email, text, social media, and other digital messaging platforms, this letter was delivered right to students’ mailboxes, offering important info to prepare them for the fall semester.

A final silver was awarded to a project where 11 college-owned vans got a fresh Warrior makeover with custom wraps. The cost-effective upgrade to existing vehicles aligns with the college’s new branding, colors, and style, creating a unified look that represents Warrior pride wherever they go.

A flyer for the college’s renewed “Barbershop Talks” series received a bronze award. This full-color stylish flyer matches the energy and community atmosphere found at this program that gives the college’s Men of Color the opportunity to talk about their lives in an unstructured, unscripted, safe, and familiar space. Adding to the experience, the first 30 students to RSVP receive free haircuts from professional barbers who work throughout the meeting.

The Medallion Awards are sponsored by the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations, the only organization of its kind that exclusively represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges. NCMPR has more than 1,600 members from nearly 600 colleges across the United States and Canada.
