El Camino College to Screen Award-Winning Documentary “Unseen”
El Camino College will screen the award-winning documentary “Unseen” at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Social Justice Center, located on campus in the Communications Building, room 204.
“Unseen” is a powerful documentary that follows the journey of Pedro, an undocumented, blind immigrant in the United States who dreams of becoming a social worker. Through innovative filmmaking and sound-centered storytelling, the film offers a deep look into Pedro’s daily life as he navigates accessibility barriers, a strained immigration system, and the challenges of belonging.
Directed by Set Hernandez, the 2023 documentary celebrates resilience, family, and the radical power of community support. It authentically highlights the intersecting realities of disability, LGBTQIA+ identity, and immigration – perspectives that are often overlooked.
This humanizing and hopeful documentary invites audiences to expand their understanding of what it means to be seen, valued, and allowed to pursue one’s purpose.
This special screening is sponsored by El Camino’s Dream Resource Center and the LGBTQIA+ Pride Center, reflecting the shared commitment of the two groups to support undocumented, immigrant, and LGBTQIA+ students.
All El Camino students, employees, and members of the community are invited to attend this free event; campus parking is $3.
