One-Act-Plays

El Camino College to Present Student-Directed “One-Act Plays”

September 18, 2024 Torrance, CA

The return of El Camino College’s One-Act Plays will open the 2024-2025 Center for the Arts theater season with performances set for 8 p.m. Oct. 11-12 and 3 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Campus Theatre. A full evening of exciting and highly theatrical short plays directed by El Camino students showcase the joy, absurdities, and mysteries of the human experience. Nathan Singh is the faculty advisor for the project.

All three plays are delightful comedies:
“Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon”
A comedy by Don Zolidis
Directed by Dean Castro

Two narrators attempt to recreate all of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in a wild, fast-paced extravaganza. To make it more difficult, they attempt to combine them into one gigantic fable.

“Switcheroo”
A mysterious comedy by Mora V. Harris
Directed by Bianca Ondatje

In the 1940s, two telephone switchboard operators listen in on an intriguing call and hear more than they bargained for. What will they do next?

“Here Comes the Bride…And There Goes the Groom”
A comedy by Billy Wayne St. John
Directed by Meyonni Varnado

When Millie Compton's fiancé bolts from the altar, she rushes into the church dressing room in tears. She is joined by her sister, her mother, grandmother and bridesmaid. Will the bride find her happy ending?

An El Camino College tradition, past one-act plays have been recognized for their outstanding achievement by the American College Theater Festival.
