El Camino College to Present Dynamic Musical Performance

TORRANCE—Concert organist Dr. Philip Hoch joins faculty member Erin Wood, El Camino College’s own “soaring soprano,” for a unique recital that will rock the Campus Theatre. This exciting musical event is scheduled for 8 p.m. April 18.

These two artists produce a dynamic performance full of emotion, expression, and dexterity across unexpected disciplines. The program will include collaborative transcriptions of vocal works by Ernest Chausson, Antonín Dvorák, and Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by solo organ works by Bach, Paul Hindemith, and Philip Glass.

Wood is an accomplished vocalist and an El Camino applied music faculty member with a distinguished opera career. She has been praised for her portrayals of Verdi and Wagner heroines featuring her “soaring soprano,” “immense voice full of grit at the bottom and transcendent radiance at the top,” and “volcanic outpouring of sound.”

Hoch is a faculty member at the University of Redlands and prolific concert organist from Southern California’s Inland Empire. His areas of specialization include organ performance, transcription studies, minimalism studies, organ registration practices, liturgical studies, and works by Philip Glass.
