El Camino College Schedules Active Shooter Drill for April 12
El Camino College has scheduled an on-campus Active Shooter Drill for 9-10 a.m. April 12 in the Bookstore. The drill is coordinated by El Camino’s Police Department and is one of several emergency preparation programs at the college that play a crucial role in maintaining campus safety.
Starting at 7 a.m., ECC Police Department personnel will begin setting up the event. Bookstore staff and other role players will receive a briefing on drill and safety procedures at 8 a.m. All activities will be contained to the Bookstore area and will conclude at 10 a.m.
The drill will focus on different scenarios, allowing police to practice tactical training and maneuvering in a campus setting. Designed to empower individuals, this exercise provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to take control of their safety and contribute to a secure campus environment. One of the main objectives includes developing emergency preparedness by practicing specific campus protocols, evacuation routes, and communication strategies.
“While it is difficult to predict how an active shooter situation or any emergency
would transpire, preparing for these events and refining our recommended best practices
can help us protect our campus community,” said El Camino College Police Chief Michael
Trevis.
The El Camino College Police Department has an active shooter safety plan available online, along with other emergency preparedness resources.
