El Camino College Receives Google Skills Program Grant
Google’s Cloud Skills Boost Program awarded El Camino College one of its $5,000 credit grants to support students completing Google-based certifications offered on the Google Cloud Learning Platform. The Cloud Learning Platform allows students of the ECC Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) to earn skill badges through hands-on labs, courses, and learning tracks, making them marketable and competitive for developer jobs upon graduation.
Computer Science professor and the club’s faculty advisor, Dr. Victor Matos, applied for the grant. “This is a great opportunity for our students to experience professional training from a prominent industry leader in cloud computing”, said Dr. Matos.
The $5,000 grant converts into credits that students can use to enroll in Google’s online certification courses, allowing them to enhancing their skills in cutting-edge technologies and cloud computing. “I am excited that GDSC students can achieve Google certifications for free with this grant,” expresses Dr. Marlow Lemons, Dean of El Camino College’s Mathematical Sciences Division. “I congratulate Dr. Matos’s for applying for this award and look forward to seeing our students earning their first Google cloud-learning badges.”
The El Camino College Google Developer Club meets on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. during the academic year and is open to students in all majors. For more information on how to join, please visit the club’s website at https://elcamino.campuslabs.com/engage/organization/googledevelopersclub.
