El Camino College Implements “Rave Mobile Safety” Emergency Alert System
El Camino College recently implemented a new emergency alert and warning system. Partnering with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and Rave Mobile Safety, this free service helps communicate real-time emergency messages and safety information to the campus and surrounding communities.
While El Camino employees and students were automatically enrolled into the Rave system through their campus email account, community members are also welcome and encouraged to receive emergency notifications. Simply text “ECCPD” to 226787 (CAMPUS) to begin receiving messages from the El Camino College Community Alerting System. An email will follow, with detailed instructions about creating a user profile and adding cell phone numbers and preferred email addresses to receive future El Camino emergency messages. El Camino College no longer uses the Nixle text alert system.
Rave can deliver messages via email, cell phone text, or any other email/text-capable device. Emergency notifications can include campus lockdowns and closures, active shooter threats, fire or hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies, suspicious activities, power outages, building/area evacuations and any other emergency.
Adding Rave to El Camino’s emergency response protocol is part of the college’s overall objective to ensure a safe and secure environment for the campus community. For additional information regarding Rave Mobile Safety alert system, visit: www.elcamino.edu/rave.
