El Camino College Hosts Warrior 5K to Support Cross-Country Program

El Camino College invites students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the community to participate in the inaugural “Dean and Dave Warrior 5K,” set for 8:00 a.m. Sunday, May 25 on campus. Everyone is welcome to run or walk to support the college’s cross-country team.

Named after longtime ECC coaches Dean Lofgren (now retired) and the late Dave Shannon, this fun end-of-season event starts and ends on the El Camino track; participants will follow a designated course through campus. The top five finishers will receive a commemorative T-shirt, and a pancake breakfast will be served after the race.

Registration is available online at the ECC Warrior 5K Registration Form and is recommended in advance. Cash/check payment is due at bib pickup, 3-5 p.m. May 23 and 6:45-7:45 a.m. May 25 at Warrior Plaza, next to the ECC track. Fees are $15 per person, or $10 for students with a valid ID. Post-race pancakes cost $3 presale and $5 on race day; cash/check only. Campus parking is $3 (exact cash or credit card); Lot H and Lot F are closest to the track.

El Camino’s perennial powerhouse cross country teams finished another outstanding season this past fall, marked by Coach Lofgren’s retirement after 36 years as head coach. Kirsten Green was named the new head coach earlier this year.
