El Camino College Center for the Arts to Present Dynamic October Performances

September 24, 2024 Torrance, CA

El Camino College’s Center for the Arts offers two exciting musical performances this October – highlights of a vibrant and diverse 56th anniversary season.

One piano, four hands! The internationally acclaimed duo ZOFO will deliver an electrifying performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Campus Theatre. Pianists Eva-Maria Zimmermann and Keisuke Nakagoshi have astounded audiences from Carnegie Hall to Tokyo with their dazzling artistry and outside-the-box thematic programming for one-piano and four-hands. This Grammy-nominated, prize-winning Steinway Artist Ensemble – one of only a handful of duos worldwide devoted exclusively to piano duets –is blazing a bold new path for one piano/four hands groups by focusing on 20th and 21st century music repertoire. ZOFO, which is shorthand for 20-finger orchestra (ZO=20 and FO=finger orchestra) also performs heart-pumping duet arrangements of famous orchestral pieces such as Stravinsky's “The Rite of Spring,” exploring the realms in which many composers first experienced their symphonic visions.

The smokin’ hot Brazilian quartet Farofa will bring its engaging, dynamic, and captivating style of music to the Campus Theatre at 8 p.m. Oct. 18. One review raved, “Farofa is bringing a much-needed fresh flavor to the contemporary jazz scene.” Like “farofa,” the tasty side dish made from yucca flour, this world music band cooks up a blend of pop, jazz, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, rock, and their own original tunes. Farofa includes percussionist Felipe Fraga, bassist Nando Raio, JP Mourão on guitar, and violinist Ted Falcon. The group was honored as the recipients of the California Presenters Spotlight Award, and as runners-up at the Samsung E-Festival 2016, among other accomplishments.

The El Camino Community College District encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation, or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact the Center for the Arts as soon as possible, but no later than seven days prior to the event.
