El Camino College Center for the Arts to Offer Sensational March Lineup

February 8, 2024 Torrance, CA

Explore the exciting calendar of events at El Camino College’s Center for the Arts this spring. Starting in March, the lineup includes amazing performances in music, dance, and musical theater, along with an inspirational guest speaker.

March begins with “An Evening of Dance: Acts of Matter & Keith Johnson/Dancers” at 8 p.m. March 2 and at 3 p.m. March 3 in Marsee Auditorium. This dynamic event features a new work from Rebecca Lemme and her Los Angeles-based company Acts of Matter, combined with performances by Keith Johnson and the Keith Johnson/Dancers. This performance brings together two celebrated Southern California-based dance companies on one exceptional program. Tickets are $22/$10.

The famed Stephen Sondheim musical “Merrily We Roll Along” comes to the Campus Theatre at 8 p.m. March 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23, and at 3 p.m. March 10, 17 and 24. Directed by Daniel Nakawatase, this ECC Theater Department production is choreographed by Liz Hoefner Adamis with musical direction by Anthony Lopez. The musical begins in the present and moves backward, tracing the lives of wealthy, jaded composer, Franklin Shepard, and his two estranged friends through each milestone of their personal and professional lives. The show ends as the three best friends at the start of their careers face a bright future: young, talented, and enthusiastic about the worlds waiting to be conquered. Tickets are $25/$15.

Inna Faliks will perform “Polonaise-Fantaisie: The Story of a Pianist” at 8 p.m. March 22 in Marsee Auditorium. This hybrid piano recital/autobiographical monologue is a story of immigration, growing up a musician, and love, told by the artist herself between performances of a varied program that includes works by Shchedrin, Bach, Freidlin, Mozart, Chopin, Paganini, and Beethoven. Called “adventurous and passionate” by The New Yorker magazine, the Ukrainian-born pianist has made a name for herself through commanding performances of standard piano repertoire, as well genre-bending, interdisciplinary projects, and inquisitive work with contemporary composers. Tickets are $26/$10.

Get ready for a highly unique and personal approach to music-making as LP and The Vinyl, featuring Danny Green comes to the Campus Theatre at 8 p.m. March 29. The group’s repertoire draws from three separate areas: beautifully reimagined renditions of favorite hits by artists including Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and David Bowie; fresh and funky explorations of jazz standards; and their own original songs. Through Leonard Patton’s charisma and interplay between pianist Danny Green, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Julien Cantelm, they bring something new to the music every time. Tickets are $24/$10.

The El Camino Community College District encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation, or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact the Center for the Arts as soon as possible, but no later than seven days prior to the event.
