El Camino College to Present an Evening of Chamber Music
El Camino College faculty member Rafael Liebich will present an evening of chamber music at 5 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Campus Theatre. The Brazilian-American pianist will be joined by friends Alex Russell (violin), Hana Kim (violin), Sarah Vendsel Dudas (viola), and Joo Lee (cello) for a program that includes Rachmaninoff’s evocative “Trio Élégiaque” No. 1 in G minor; Turina’s colorful “Piano Quartet” in A minor, Op. 67; and Schumann’s vibrant “Piano Quintet” in E flat major, Op. 44.
Liebich teaches classical piano classes at El Camino where he is also coordinator of the applied keyboard area. An advocate of contemporary music, he actively pursues embracing diversity in his performances as well as in his pedagogical practice.
The award-winning musician, collaborator, and recording artist has performed throughout Southern California and worked in studio recordings for numerous soundtracks of short movies and documentaries. A member of the International Society for Music Education, his scholarly work includes publications in music analysis, music education and sociology, and music interpretation and aesthetics. Liebich earned degrees from the State University of Campinas, the Federal University of the Rio Grande do Sul State, and a doctorate in musical arts from the USC Thornton School of Music.
