El Camino College Theatre Department to Present “Dear Harvey”
The El Camino College Center for the Arts will present the play “Dear Harvey” this fall. Performances are set for 8 p.m. Oct. 14, 15, 21 and 22, and at 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Campus Theatre.
This documentary-style play by Patricia Loughrey highlights the impact and legacy of Harvey Milk, California’s first openly gay elected official and groundbreaking activist. The story is told through a series of speeches, historical documents, and verbatim interviews with the people who knew him.
Nathan Singh directs this performance where spoken word combines with multimedia and music as an ensemble cast moves in and out of the identities of real-world figures whose lives were forever altered by Milk’s too-short career. This moving play also features music by Thomas Hodges and is a tribute to the resilience of California history.
Tickets are $10-$15 and may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system. Campus parking is free for this production; no permit required. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance. COVID-19 safety protocols are in place: www.elcamino.edu/campus-life/arts/.
