El Camino’s Office of Marketing & Communications Wins Four Gold Awards
The Office of Marketing & Communications at El Camino College recently brought home eight Medallion Awards from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR). Half of the awards included top-tier “gold” recognition, highlighting the college’s outstanding work in newsletter, video, writing, and flyer creation categories. El Camino’s Executive Director of Marketing & Communications Ann O’Brien and Assistant Director of Marketing & Operations Amy Hanoa accepted the awards on the college’s behalf at the 2023 NCMPR District 6 Conference in Palm Springs.
El Camino’s “Warrior Connect” spring 2023 newsletter is one item that took the top prize in its category. This 11-by-17-inch, full-color newsletter is an ideal size for carrying in a folder, computer bag, or backpack and was designed for use in recruitment efforts at area high schools and community events. A new double-sided APAHM Event Flyer that promotes Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) also won a gold medallion. The colorful design inspired the event’s overall marketing package that included a logo, Zoom graphics, and social media graphics.
Another gold award went to a news release about El Camino’s new truck driving class offered to formerly incarcerated students that shares students’ experiences and the perspectives from partner organizations that made the class a reality. Gold was also awarded to a video offering a look at the college’s new Black Student Success Center. This 1.5-minute video features student Ambassador Brooklin and was created on an iPhone, edited on TikTok with captions and voice-over, and then workshopped over a few rounds of edits. The final product was posted to the new ECC TikTok account and shared to Instagram, ultimately winning the highest honor in the “quick-turn video” category.
In addition, a silver medallion in the “print wild card” category honored the college’s innovative Pocket Guide, a perfectly sized publication that puts all things El Camino into the palm of your hand. Branded with the college’s new color palette, this compact piece offers a good variety of ECC info, from academics to support programs. A silver also went to a wintertime social media post featuring a spectacular snowy view from campus image complete with a stunning mountain backdrop of Los Angeles and downtown skyline. A final silver was awarded to a series of two-minute videos highlighting New Student Orientation.
The college’s 2022 Annual Report to the Community received a bronze award. This full-color, 12-page book features current news about El Camino, along with stories about the college’s people and programs.
The National Council for Marketing & Public Relations is the only organization of its kind that exclusively represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges. NCMPR has more than 1,600 members from nearly 550 colleges across the United States and Canada.
