El Camino’s Center for the Arts to Present Performance by Anointed Feet Dance
The El Camino College Center for the Arts will present “The Waiting Room” by Anointed Feet Dance at 7 p.m. April 28 and 29 in Marsee Auditorium. The acclaimed South Bay-based dance group will present their dynamic interpretation of “The Wiz” in this original dance drama.
Co-written by Kanisha Bennett (owner/founder of Anointed Feet Dance) and Johnetta McDowell, the performance features choreography by Bennett, McDowell and Kenieshia Jones. “The Waiting Room” takes audiences down a reimagined “Yellow Brick Road” called “The Streets of Gold” and asks the questions, “What is it that you are waiting for?” “What do you do when you are waiting?” and, “Are there things in your life that are holding you back from your destiny?” Anointed Feet Dance invites viewers to find their own story through their story.
Located in Hawthorne, Anointed Feet Dance has promoted health, wellness, family support and community development through dance workshops and mentorship since 2014. Its mission is to inspire dancers of all ages to embrace a lasting love and appreciation for dance through creative and innovative choreography and education.
As the owner/founder of Anointed Feet Dance, Bennett also serves as the artistic director, choreographer, primary instructor, and minister of arts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in dance from the University of California, Riverside, a master’s in performance and choreography from Florida State University, and an honorary doctorate in humanities from Elbon-Solutions College.
