El Camino College Board of Trustees Conducts Annual Reorganization Meeting

Members of the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees re-elected Nilo Vega Michelin as Board President during the Board’s annual reorganization meeting on Monday, December 20, 2021. Trustee Michelin represents the Trustee Area 2, which includes Alondra Park, Del Aire, Hawthorne and Lennox.

Additionally, Kenneth A. Brown will continue to serve as the Board’s Vice President in his capacity as Trustee Area 1, representing Inglewood, and Ladera Heights. He works in the Mission Systems Sector at Northrop Grumman and as an adjunct professor of physics at CSU Dominguez Hills. Trustee Brown is also the President of the California Community College Trustees Board, which consists of 21 members elected statewide by the 73 district governing boards and a student-member elected by the student trustees.

Katherine Steinbroner Maschler, who represents Trustee Area 4, which includes Lawndale, Alondra Park, and portions of Hawthorne and Torrance, was elected by the Board to serve as its Secretary. For the last 30 years, Maschler has taught as an adjunct faculty member at several Los Angeles-area community colleges, including El Camino College.

Trisha Murakawa will continue to represent Trustee Area 3, which includes El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and a portion of Redondo Beach, as a Board Member. The president of a South Bay public relations firm, Murakawa has also served as a city commissioner in Redondo Beach for 24 years.

Cliff Numark will also continue to represent Trustee Area 5, which includes Redondo Beach and portions of Palos Verdes.

The Board will continue to be proactive in their Board committee assignments throughout the remainder of the 2022 calendar year. Trustee Michelin serves as the District’s representative to the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization. Trustee Brown represents the District at the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association. Trustee Maschler serves on the El Camino Community College District Foundation board. Trustee Murakawa reviews nominations for membership on the California Community College Trustees Board and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Regular board meetings are open to the public and are scheduled for 5 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the Board Hearing Room located in the Administration Building on the campus of El Camino College. In compliance with the Brown Act, Board meeting agendas and minutes are available online 48 hours prior to each meeting.
