This year’s National Women’s History Month theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.”

This theme celebrates the collective strength and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership. Through their efforts, they have served as an inspiration for all generations — both past and present.

Distinguished Women Award

The Women’s History Month Committee seeks women from the El Camino College campus and community to honor at this year’s Distinguished Women's Event.

The committee welcomes nominations of all individuals from a diverse range of experiences, backgrounds, and from those who have a demonstrated history of contributing to the El Camino College and/or to the surrounding community.

Those honored will:

  • Have their portraits installed in the El Camino College Women’s Wall of Fame gallery located in the Schauerman Library
  • Have their names engraved on a perpetual plaque in the gallery
  • Receive a certificate of recognition during the Distinguished Women's Event

The National Women’s History Alliance states, "This theme celebrates the collective strength and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership. Through their efforts, they have served as an inspiration for all generations — both past and present.

Throughout history, the process of information sharing has been a powerful catalyst for change. An honest, open examination of new insights and knowledge can create a framework for collaboration. This, in turn, promotes the well-being of groups, businesses, communities, and society as a whole.

From classrooms to boardrooms, and from grassroots movements to global initiatives, women educators and leaders have played a pivotal role in nurturing minds and inspiring transformative action.

Our 2025 theme spotlights the contributions women have made to the American educational system, the free marketplace of ideas, and the very fabric of our democracy".

Nominees must work at El Camino College and/or reside or work in the communities within the El Camino College district: El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance.

Friends, family, colleagues, or students may make nominations, or individuals may nominate themselves.

Nominee will be considered based on:
their contribution(s) to women’s and girls’ causes at the college or community level;

how they embody this year’s National Women’s History Month theme: “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations."
